Step back in time to the 1970s, an era characterised by big hair, big flares and even bigger shoes.

Disco fever hit UK streets and platforms boogied to funky ‘freak-out’ beats.

Many twisted ankles later the platform craze lost its groove and fashion became influenced by American trends with Levi jeans replacing wide leg flares. The public was crying out for fresh new footwear to complement their new threads.

So, in the summer of ’76 the Pod brand was established, creating colourful, cutting-edge footwear, which combined comfort, style and durability to the everyday shoe.

In the heart of the shoe manufacturing county of Northamptonshire, Pod produced the ‘Original Pin-Punch stitch-out’ shoe. Two years later, the popular ‘Quilted stitch-out’ version followed in its footsteps. Its unique approach to design took the market by storm and led Pod to branch out to the ladies’ market with the revolutionary ‘Twin-strap’ sandal.

Before you could ‘Pop on a pair of Pods’ the Pod phenomenon had reached the hub of London’s counter-culture, opening the first ‘Pod Shop’ in King’s Road.....Pod became a household name.

Throughout the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, the Pod logo was seen strutting and striding down every high street and ‘Podman’ was swinging from every shoelace in a variety of colours.

As the grunge era approached Britain in the early ‘90s, fashion turned another corner and Pod responded with an aggressive new look, the ‘Viper’. Since then, Pod has expanded its collection with fresh design initiatives.

Generation after generation Pod has upheld its reputation and walks tall with other leading brands. In the 21st century it continues to provide robust, contemporary footwear to people from all walks of life.
